Specialist Support for Asian Women

Preston Women's Refuge has a multi lingual service which covers all areas of our work. We employ multi lingual staff who work in all of our different services and we also have multi lingual volunteers. So which service you need support from we can ensure that you can speak to someone who speaks Gujerati, Punjabi or Urdu as well of course English.

Our multi lingual refuge staff are based in the refuges to provide help, support and assistance to Asian women and children who are fleeing domestic violence. We provide separate cooking facilities, equipment and utensils for halal use. We also aim to meet the religious requirements of women by providing them with prayer books, prayer mats and religious clothing.

Our 24 hour staffed helpline has designated slots where a multi lingual worker will answer the telephone. These are:

Mondays 10am - 12 noon

Thursdays 2pm - 3pm

Multi lingual staff and volunteers also work on the Helpline at other times. We will always make an arrangement for a multi lingual member of staff to telephone a woman back at an alternative time if required.

The multi-lingual outreach service has also proved to be very successful. More and more Asian women are accessing this service.

Posters and Helpline cards are produced in Gujarati and Urdu. We also have a leaflet in Urdu.
