Immigration Advice Service
We provide initial advice on entry clearance matters, leave to enter or remain in the UK, nationality and citizenship matters and EU and EEA immigration law.
We also undertake immigration casework for domestic violence applications.
Once a referral to the Immigration Advice Service has been made, our specialist advice worker will contact you to discuss your situation. You will be issued with a client care letter which sets out how we will deal with your case.
To make a successful application for permission to remain in the UK on the grounds of domestic violence you will need to have involved at least one statutory agency, e.g. the police, a GP, the hospital.
Applying for permission to stay in the UK is usually a lengthy procedure. Until your application is successful you are not allowed to claim any public benefits, e.g. Income Support.
You can refer yourself by ringing:
- Domestic Violence Helpline on 01772 201601 (24 hour)
- email: immigration@prestonwomensrefuge.org.uk
- At the Hope Centre St Johns Shopping Centre (10 to 4 Monday to Saturday)
- At your request, you may be referred by any another agency, including the police, housing, health visitor, children's care services
We provide this service in Gujerati, Punjabi and Urdu.
If we cannot help you we will refer you, whenever possible, to another agency for support.
