Preston Sanctuary Scheme
The Sanctuary Scheme is a victim centred initiative, which aims to make it possible for victims (both male and female) of Domestic Violence and their children, to remain in their own homes and feel safe and secure. It is a partnership scheme between Preston Women's Refuge, Preston City Council and Preston Police.
The Sanctuary Scheme is designed to enable you to stay safely in your home, by adding extra security measures; these may include a safe room (known as a "sanctuary") where a door to a room is replaced with a solid core door to keep you safe until the police arrive, window locks, security lights etc. We also provide emotional support and support with safety planning.
Any person who may be made homeless due to domestic violence is eligible for the service, initially the scheme limited to housing association tenants, although each referral will be looked at on an individual basis.
You can refer yourself by ringing:
Domestic Violence Helpline on
01772 201601 (24 hour)
Advocacy Service on 01772 201501 (9 to 5, Monday to Friday)
At the Hope Centre St Johns Centre 01772 906 667 (10 to 4 Monday to Saturday)
At your request, you may be referred by any another agency, including the police, housing, children's care services
